#124 The Things of the Earth and the Things of Heaven

Jesus answers two more questions from people with different beliefs or people trying to trap him. He meets them where they are at, cutting through craftiness and worldly beliefs to show the authority of His word.

Many people struggle when it comes to issues of authority and who is in control. We can say that God has authority, but is it something that is really lived out in our life? Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and earth. He is the king, and we are called to submit to his authority.

Combining holy week into a message and communion to show the importance of the resurrection to the Christian faith. Our hope for being raised to everlasting life is around the fact that Jesus was raised from the dead.

As we enter passion week, it is good to slow down and recognize why Jesus was entering into Jerusalem, as the bringer of Peace. Even amid the popular misconception that he would be the King who would free them from the oppression of the Romans. The Peace he brought, was peace with God.

Jesus explains yet again how the Kingdom will not appear as the disciples are expecting. This time he uses a parable to also stress the need for Stewardship in his absence as the disciples await his return.

#118 Disciples Who Can See

Jesus predicts his death for the third time to his disciples, who are believing the coming messiah will bring in an earthly kingdom. They are blinded to the truth of the suffering servant because of their own expectations. And this is followed by the healing of a blind man, who is blind physically, but not spiritually. We need to be disciples who see God for who He is, not who we want Him to be.

What is it that we hold onto dearly? Do those things in our life mean more to us than our relationship with Jesus? If so we need to humbly admit our idolatry before a holy and righteous God to be single-minded disciples, not swayed by the things of this world.

#116 Child-like Faith

In another lesson about humility Jesus tells the disciples that they must be like a child to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. But he also gives them three important points: Let them come, Do not hinder, receive the kingdom like a child. The disciples needed to understand the grace being offered so as to not control it when it comes to others receiving.
