Ruth 1

As we begin our look at Ruth and the redemption phase, we also understand the struggles that relationships come from in order to find redemption. Many times we can look to so many places for redemption, but the one true place is found in the Lord.

Today as we finish Hosea, we look at the final call to repentance from the prophet and God's promise to restore his people.

Hosea 12-13 Unfaithfulness

Today we talk about the third accusation against the people of Israel, their unfaithfulness to the Lord. The people were deceptive and dishonest which would lead to destruction as a judgment against them for breaking the covenant. God repeatedly calls on the people to return to him, and when that message is not heard, judgement comes.

Hosea 10-11

The prosperity of Israel was mistaken for their own deeds and power. Rather than seeing the luxury of being God's chosen people, those chased after and loved idols and other things. The judgement coming was a discipline to allow them to know God. We need to be mindful of our own wandering and ungrateful hearts for the prosperity that God has given us in salvation.

Hosea 8-9 

The section of no love for God continues as Hosea describes areas of rebellion and sin where they are loving other things over God. His warning comes to a people who think they know God, but God is driving them away in exile for betraying the covenant. 

Hosea 6 and 7

We move into the second focus of the accusations against the people of God, they had no love for him. Continually calling us back to the first issue of no knowledge of God, it is hard to have love for Him or others when we don't know Him. Israel looked to other things to love and obsess over, we need to be aware of this pattern in our own life as well. 

Hosea 5:1-6:3

Look at the accusations for all the people in terms of the lack of knowledge for God, God calls on them to repent and seek him. They will face exile and judgement for their unfaithfulness and turning to other things in life. What are the things that we turn to for healing and cure instead of the Lord.

Hosea 4

Today we look at the start of the accusations against Israel. Hosea starts with the priests and the prophets to stress how the nation has been led into no knowledge of God, no love, and no faithfulness. The rest of the book will highlight these three areas. 

Hosea 3

As we look at the command to love again, who is our Gomer? Who is it that God calls us to love that have been unfaithful to the relationship? By symbolizing his own love for the people of Israel, God shows Hosea how to love his wayward wife.
